At Amaravati, six members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council sat down with Chairman K. Moshen Raju on Monday, following a High Court ruling that required the presiding officer to decide on resignation letters within a 30‑day window.
Jayamangla Venkataramana, who had pushed the court over the delay in accepting his resignation, handed Raju a copy of the order and urged him to make an early decision. Venkataramana, originally elected on a YSR Congress Party ticket, had resigned and joined the Jana Sena Party on 23 November 2024.
Five other MLCs—also former YSRCP members who stepped down after their party lost power last year—have pending resignation letters with Raju. He has yet to accept or reject any of them. Deputy Chairperson Zakia Khanam, Pothula Sunitha, B. Kalyan Chakravarthi, Padmasri, and Marri Rajasekhar all visited Raju on Monday, urging him to act on their resignations.
On 27 November, the High Court directed the Chairman to complete the enquiry into Venkataramana’s resignation and to decide within four weeks. A single‑judge bench criticised Raju’s prolonged inaction, calling it “illegal, arbitrary, and abuse of the process.” Justice Gannamaneni Ramakrishna Prasad warned that the chair, even under discretionary powers and in a constitutional role, cannot postpone decisions on a member’s resignation and must uphold the Constitution’s spirit.
Venkataramana had been elected as an MLC through the MLA quota in 2023, resigned, and announced his move to the Jana Sena Party headed by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. Zakia Khanam, nominated under the Governor’s quota in July 2020, resigned as an MLC and quit the YSRCP in May 2025 to join the BJP. Sunitha resigned in August last year; the three‑time legislator, formerly chief of the YSR Congress women’s wing, left the party to join the BJP. Padmasri and Chakravarthi submitted their resignations in August 2024. Rajasekhar, who resigned in March 2025, joined the Telugu Desam Party in September.
