Missing Texas teen had big plans for family event before vanishing during Christmas Eve walk
Camila “Cami” Mendoza Olmos, a 19‑year‑old community‑college student from San Antonio, vanished on the morning before Christmas Eve. At around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, she was last seen outside her parents’ house, wearing baby‑blue pajama shorts and a black hoodie, as a security video captured her rummaging through the front yard and then turning toward her car. The footage ends there, and the sheriff’s office has not reported any further sightings.
Cami’s best friend, Camila Estrella, explained that the two had spoken on the phone Tuesday night to arrange a trip to a department store for a dress. The plan was to find something that Estrella’s boyfriend would wear at his family gathering. During that call, Estrella heard the familiar voice of her friend, and later told reporters, “She said, ‘Bye Cami, I love you.’”
Estrella, who said she talked to Cami every day, described her as “someone that was just full of love.” She added that “this is so random, we never expected this.” The sudden disappearance left their community stunned and their families desperate for answers.
Cami’s mother, Rosario Olmos, woke up on Wednesday to discover that her daughter, who usually took early‑morning walks, had not returned. After searching the neighborhood, she found Cami’s phone on a bed with a dead battery and called law enforcement. Police arrived with scent‑tracking dogs, but they were unable to locate the student.
The sheriff’s office has listed Cami “possibly endangered” in its missing‑person alert. Her aunt, Nancy Olmos, who helped raise Cami after the family moved from California to Texas in 2012, has been a vocal advocate in the search. “It’s just not Cami,” she said. “We knew something happened. This was not a Christmas for us. It is a nightmare.” Family members who had been on holiday trips rushed back to help in the search.
No further evidence has surfaced, and the investigation continues as authorities comb the surrounding area. Locals are keeping an eye out for any updates, while Cami’s family clings to hope that she will be safely found.
