Brown University shooting suspect identified by cops after dayslong manhunt, warrant out for arrest
After a six‑day chase that seemed to yield nothing, authorities confirm they’ve identified the person who opened fire on two students and injured nine others at Brown University.
The unnamed gunman fled the scene after a classroom shooting, escaping into the streets of Providence on Saturday. While police released several blurry surveillance shots, it took days for a clear picture of the perpetrator’s face to emerge. “He could be anywhere,” Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez told reporters, “We still don’t know who the person is or where he is.”
Brown’s campus is equipped with over 1,200 security cameras across its 145‑acre grounds, but none cover the Barus & Holley building where the attack occurred.
The incident claimed the lives of 19‑year‑old Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, and 18‑year‑old Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek American freshman. Campus security and local police have faced growing criticism for days of fruitless searches.
