Odisha: IIM Sambalpur celebrates 10 years of excellence

IIM Sambalpur in Odisha marked a big milestone this week, celebrating 10 years of growth and innovation as a top management school in India. The event kicked off with the launch of three new campus spots: the BS Program Hostel for student housing, the Rangabati Open Theatre for cultural events, and the Cafe Hub Complex for social hangouts. These additions highlight the institute’s push for a balanced student life, blending academics with fun and community vibes.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan joined the 11th Foundation Day festivities as the chief guest. He handed out 1 lakh rupees each to standout students and shared his thoughts on the institute’s success. “Congratulations to Director Mahadeo Jaiswal for turning IIM Sambalpur into a world-class spot,” Pradhan said. He praised the school’s unique efforts to empower local master weavers and called on the team to create a case study showcasing Sambalpur’s rich cultural heritage.

In his welcome address, Director Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal spotlighted key wins over the past decade. IIM Sambalpur stands out among India’s 21 IIMs with a stunning campus built in just two years—saving 35 crores from the budget. The institute jumped 16 places in the NIRF 2025 management rankings, landing at 34th from 50th last year, one of the biggest leaps around.

Innovation shines through too. IIM Sambalpur leads globally as the first to roll out AI-enabled classrooms, shifting teachers from just lecturing to guiding hands-on learning. Since 2019, the school has nailed gender diversity in its MBA programs, with the current second-year batch boasting 76% female students. It’s also nearing Triple Crown accreditation from AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS, aiming to become a top-ranked global player.

The institute’s community impact stands out in its Master Weavers Training Program, where it has guided 80 local artisans. These weavers now sell their crafts worldwide via digital platforms, gaining real empowerment. Pradhan presented certificates to some of them during the event.

Other guests included Odisha’s Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, Sambalpur District Collector Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar, IG Himanshu Kumar Lal, SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo, and Municipal Commissioner Rehan Khatri. The day wrapped up with awards for top MBA 2024-26 students and a vote of thanks from CAO Amrut Phalguni Mohanty.

As IIM Sambalpur steps into its next chapter, it stays committed to diverse programs and global ambitions, building on its journey from startup school to national standout.
