NFDC presents inaugural Vision Asia Award to director Shahram Mokri at Busan International Film Festival 2025

In Busan, South Korea, the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) of India teamed up with the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) to launch the first-ever International Film Festival of India – Vision Asia Award. This exciting moment happened during the 30th edition of BIFF on Friday, September 26.
Prakash Magdum, the Managing Director of NFDC, handed the award to Iranian filmmaker Shahram Mokri for his standout film, Black Rabbit White Rabbit. A jury of experts picked it as the Best Film under the Vision Awards category. The panel included Pankaj Saxena, Artistic Director of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI); director Haobam Paban Kumar; and cinematographer A. Sreekar Prasad.
The Vision Asia Award aims to spotlight fresh, innovative talents in Asian cinema. It highlights bold stories and independent voices that are pushing the film industry forward across the continent. Recognizing Black Rabbit White Rabbit perfectly captures this goal, celebrating artistic excellence in the region.
At the ceremony, Magdum shared his thoughts, calling the award a tribute to top-notch filmmaking and the growing partnership between India and South Korea. “It’s a proud day for IFFI to join forces with BIFF and shine a light on the future of Asian cinema,” he said, according to an NFDC press note.
This debut award marks a big step in building cultural ties and creative links between India and South Korea. It builds on the long-standing connection between IFFI and BIFF, helping to grow their shared love for global films.
The 30th Busan International Film Festival ran from September 17 to 26, 2025, at the Busan Cinema Centre. To kick things off, it featured the South Korean black comedy thriller No Other Choice, directed by Park Chan-wook.
