‘Five short of a century’: BJP on Rahul Gandhi’s string of 95 poll losses

New Delhi, Nov. 16 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fired a sharp criticism at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after the party’s last election saw 95 defeats. In a post on X, BJP’s Amit Malviya noted that Rahul “has five short of a century” of losses over the past two decades. The comment was meant to underscore the poor performance of Congress in recent polls and to question Rahul’s leadership.

The BJP also highlighted tensions inside the Bihar Congress over the state’s “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Malviya said senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad dismissed Rahul’s objections and pointed out that no one from Congress, the RJD or the Communist parties raised any formal protest. According to Malviya, the SIR is meant to remove dead voters, illegal residents, and duplicate entries, but the resistance may be motivated by the desire to keep “illegal voters” on the rolls.

Turning to West Bengal, the BJP chief warned that the TMC’s chief Mamata Banerjee is also opposing the SIR. Malviya argued that the resistance would keep fake voters, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims, on the electoral register. He added that people who submit or accept fake forms could face up to a year in jail.

In short, the BJP is using the 95‑loss tally against Rahul Gandhi to rally its base, criticize Congress’s internal divide in Bihar, and caution voters in West Bengal about the implications of a contested voter‑roll revision.
