India’s government fact-check team has exposed a sneaky Pakistani attempt to spread fake news just before a major military drill. The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit revealed an AI-generated video falsely showing Air Marshal Rakesh Sinha, a top Indian defense official, claiming that Pakistani drones sneaked into the country and wrecked advanced S-400 defense systems.
This doctored clip, which popped up online, aimed to stir up panic ahead of the Indian Armed Forces’ “Cold Start” exercise—a massive test of drone and counter-drone technology set for early October. In the fake version, Air Marshal Sinha supposedly admits drones reached Delhi and Gujarat, destroying the S-400 systems through surveillance.
PIB Fact Check quickly debunked the video, calling it a product of Pakistani propaganda. They shared side-by-side clips: the altered one twisting the air marshal’s words, and the original where he simply discusses the upcoming “Cold Start” drone exercise. Many social media users expressed shock at how seamlessly the AI edits misled viewers.
The fact-checkers spotlighted a Pakistani social media account called “the Whistle Blower,” which pushed the false claim: “Indian Air Marshal Rakesh Sinha admitted that Pakistani drones reached Delhi and Gujarat, and that S-400 systems were destroyed because of their surveillance.”
In reality, the original footage from a news interview shows Air Marshal Sinha explaining: “The armed forces will organize ‘Cold Start’ in the first week of October, where the capabilities of drones and counter-drone systems will be tested.”
PIB Fact Check urged everyone to stay alert against AI-powered misinformation. “These videos aim to confuse and scare the public,” they warned. “Always check facts before sharing to stop fake news from spreading.”
This comes as the Indian military prepares for its first-ever full-scale drone and counter-drone war game. All three branches—army, navy, and air force—will join in, showcasing the latest tech to boost defenses against aerial threats like enemy drones.
