Jane Addiction officially breaks up after explosive onstage fight involving Dave Navarro, Perry Farrell

“The band has decided to split up,” the announcement began, marking the end of a storied career. The decision, revealed on Wednesday, came just over a year after frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro collided in a heated backstage exchange during a Boston show last September.

The group’s post on Instagram clarified that, after that confrontation, they had “unilaterally determined” it would be best not to continue the tour and had made statements about Perry’s well‑being that the members now regret.

“We gathered one last time to settle our differences so that Jane Addiction’s legacy remains the collaborative work of the four of us,” the band added.

Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins said they now look forward to pursuing their own music and creative projects. “Jane Addiction will forever live in our hearts,” they closed, expressing pride in the music they made together.

Farrell, meanwhile, posted his own statement on Instagram that same Wednesday. He apologized for the shocking incident in October 2024 and confirmed that the “Three‑Day” tour had officially ended after forty years together.

Speaking directly to fans, the 66‑year‑old frontman said: “I reflect on what happened on stage last year and realize I didn’t handle the situation properly.

I apologize to our concertgoers and my bandmates for losing my temper and for interrupting the performance.”

He went on to say that Jane Addiction has always been central to his life, and that the band, its songs and the impact they’ve had on music and culture mean more to him than words can capture.

He thanked the fan base for their “love and support” over the years and reiterated his aim to deliver authentic, honest and positive shows. In Boston, the band failed that goal, and he expressed sincere regret for anyone who was hurt.

The group’s implosion began on September 13, 2024, when the band was performing at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion and a physical altercation broke out mid‑set. Video footage showed Farrell shoving and striking Navarro, while crew rushed in to separate them and the concert ended abruptly. The fallout forced the band to cancel the rest of its tour.

Farrell later issued a public apology, labeling his behavior “inexcusable.” Navarro, Avery and Perkins released a joint statement citing the incident as the reason the tour couldn’t proceed.

In July 2025, the trio filed a lawsuit against Farrell seeking $10 million in damages, alleging assault, battery, emotional distress, negligence and breach of contract. They argued that Farrell’s actions cost them substantial touring revenue and derailed the group’s future plans.

Farrell counter‑sued almost immediately, accusing the former bandmates of harassment, bullying and contractual violations. He also disputed the portrayal of the Boston incident and objects to claims about his mental health made in the public sphere.

Back in 2022, years before the Boston showdown and the eventual breakup, Farrell had praised Navarro and outlined hopes for Jane Addiction’s future.

At that time the band was touring a thirty‑two‑date “Spirits on Fire” run without Navarro, who was still recovering from COVID‑19. Farrell told reporters that “nothing great comes easy” and that the absence of his guitarist made the tour harder to put together, but he carried on, stating that he was a devotee of bringing entertainment and art to the world and that any chance he could entertain people would make him feel alive.

He also expressed a wish that Jane Addiction would continue together for at least another decade, saying he had been playing music for forty years and might still have a decade or so of good years left performing the band’s material—though he admitted it might be as challenging as being an aerobics instructor at seventy.

The story wrapped up with a final note that although the band is breaking up, the music and the memories remain indelible, and the members—alongside their dedicated fans—move forward in separate creative directions.
