Pranavi becomes first woman to lead at IGPL, shares honours with Kochhar

Mumbai – In a headline‑making round off the first day of the IGPL Invitational in Mumbai, Pranavi Urs became the first woman to hold a share of the lead on the IGPL Tour. Her 6‑under‑62 on the Par‑68 BPGC course matched the score of her boyfriend, Karandeep Kochhar, who also finished 62 with an eagle‑par‑eagle finish.
Urs, playing her first IGPL event, had already claimed titles on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club. She curled eight birdies against two bogeys on a tight BPGC layout, hitting the fairway more often than not and keeping her puts on the green. “I hit the ball well, gave myself opportunities, and I’m proud of getting three birdies in a row twice,” she said. “I keep my focus on the fairways and greens, that’s the key on this course.”
Karandeep, on his second IGPL outing, posted two eagles, three birdies and only one bogey in the fourth. “I had a birdie on the first and hit good shots on the 16th and 18th. I got lucky on those two, and a 30‑yard up‑and‑down saved me a lot,” he explained. He will tee off again tomorrow, and the couple joked they’ll try to out‑score each other.
On the rest of the field, four women fetched a top‑10 finish. Vani Kapoor led the women’s field at the top of the pair, tied with Durga Nittur, while Ridhima Dilawari sat at T‑9. IGPL Order of Merit leader Aman Raj slipped to third after a 64, despite a birdie‑birdie finish. Kartik Singh, a much‑touted young player, was tied for fourth at a 65, while Shaurya Binu matched his result.
US professional Linn‑ Vaughn credited the high score as a learning experience, noting he “was fortunate and finished strong.” Meanwhile, amateur Ranveer Mitroo shot an 8‑under‑67, joining Ridhima Dilawari and others for a modest show of 1‑under each, indicating depth in the field.
The day highlighted women golfers’ rising profile on the IGPL and the growing competitiveness of the International Golf Pro League. With Male and Female leaders now sharing the spot, the tournament promises an exciting shootout into the back‑rounds.
Stay tuned for the final round at IGPL Invitational, where Pranavi Urs, Karandeep Kochhar, and their fellow competitors will battle for the top spot and a place on the season‑ending leaderboard.
