Dubai keeps pushing ahead as a global powerhouse in the shift to a greener economy, thanks to the strong leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, highlighted this during the kickoff of the 27th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition, or WETEX.
Organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), WETEX brings together cutting-edge ideas in energy, water, environment, and tech. Sheikh Ahmed pointed out how Dubai has turned into a key spot for big international events on sustainability and innovation. These gatherings boost partnerships between businesses and governments, draw in investments, and spotlight fresh solutions. The event plays a big role in the UAE’s drive toward Net Zero by 2050, aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
Launched 27 years ago, WETEX solidifies Dubai’s spot as a top player in tackling climate challenges worldwide. It sparks new business ideas that balance economic growth with protecting natural resources, Sheikh Ahmed added.
Running from September 30 to October 2, the exhibition draws over 3,100 companies from 65 countries. That’s a clear sign of Dubai’s rising pull as a center for sustainability, renewable energy, and green innovation.
Sheikh Ahmed got a warm welcome from Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and Founder and Chairman of WETEX, along with Majid Hamad Al Shamsi, Chairman of DEWA, and other top officials.
Al Tayer shared that WETEX, held under Sheikh Mohammed’s guidance and Sheikh Ahmed’s patronage, has grown into a must-attend hub for innovation, teamwork, and investment. “It lets local and global companies show off their newest tech in clean energy, renewable sources, water, environment, and sustainability,” he said. Attendees build partnerships, spot investment chances, swap know-how with experts and leaders, and join seminars and discussions. All this speeds up sustainable development across the region and beyond.
During his walkthrough, Sheikh Ahmed learned about the latest in clean and renewable energy, water solutions, and sustainability. He checked out emerging tech like artificial intelligence, digital tools, and Fourth Industrial Revolution breakthroughs. He toured pavilions from countries including China, Russia, Germany, France, and South Korea.
He also saw standout innovations from groups like Masdar, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Municipality, Enoc, Acwa Power, Omniyat, Damac, Binghatti, Siemens, Danway, SunTen, Riyadh Cables Group, TAQA, Gulf Eternit, Empower, Dragon Oil, Alserkal Group, Al Ghurair Group, and Emirates Water and Electricity Company, plus other local, regional, and international players.
At the DEWA stand, Al Tayer updated Sheikh Ahmed on DEWA’s major projects, smart tech, and solutions. Highlights include the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and the Hatta Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant, showcasing DEWA’s bold steps in renewable energy and sustainability.
