Slain Maryland mom Rachel Morin’s ex, father of eldest daughter accused of possessing child porn
A former partner of Rachel Morin— the Maryland mother of five whose brutal rape and murder by an illegal migrant sparked a nation‑wide debate—was taken into custody on Tuesday on child‑pornography allegations.
Matthew McMahon, the father of Morin’s eldest daughter, was arrested at his home in Maryland this Tuesday, WMAR 2 reported.
McMahon, who was well known for his vocal support of Morin’s children during the defendant’s trial, had been under investigation by the Harford County Child Advocacy Center for child pornography since September, the outlet added.
Law enforcement officials say they linked a series of graphic videos and photos that feature minors as young as five to McMahon’s computer.
CBS News reported that one of the files identified on his device depicted a young girl engaging in sexual acts with an adult male.
Charged documents indicate that McMahon’s computer contained at least ten files featuring girls aged five to fourteen in a range of sexual activities.
Rachel Morin’s adult daughter lived with McMahon, while Morin herself was found deceased on the Ma & Pa Trail near Bel Air, Maryland, back in 2023.
Her body was found naked, her head described by investigators as “smashed in.” A roughly 20‑foot trail of blood led to a drainage culvert where the remains were disposed.
Nearly a year after the murder, law enforcement arrested Victor Martinez‑Hernandez, a suspected gang associate from El Salvador, who was later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in August 2025.
When he was informed that the suspect behind Morin’s death had been apprehended, McMahon spoke to reporters about revisiting the very trail where his former partner was killed, explaining the small gestures he’d made to honor her family.
“I brought flowers and placed them on the rock at the trailhead, and I took down the flyers with Victor’s sketch,” McMahon said in tears to Fox 45 News near the site where his ex’s body had been discovered.
Throughout the proceedings, McMahon remained a steadfast advocate for Morin and her five kids, notably her 20‑year‑old daughter, Faye.
At the time Martinez‑Hernandez was arrested, Faye was pregnant with her first child, a girl who would become Morin’s first grandchild.
“Faye should be able to give Rachel that news, to tell Rachel you’re going to be a grandmother. But she can never give that news,” McMahon remarked then.
The rest of Morin’s brood span nine to fifteen years old. During the sentencing, every one of the younger children shared their accounts—Faye took center stage and became the sole witness whose testimony was read aloud by the prosecutors in the courtroom, while the younger siblings recorded their statements.
In her testimony, Faye painted her mom as a “kind, strong, honest, determined and funny” woman, noting that she possessed the “best laugh.”
Her only son reflected in an audio message, “She was a good mom. Every time I see a picture of her, I think about the life I had with her and my four sisters. I miss her.”
McMahon remains in custody at the Harford County Detention Center without having posted bail; court documents show his trial is set for January.
