Rajasthan: High-level project monitoring unit set up for mining sector

Rajasthan Boosts Mining Sector with New Project Monitoring Unit
Rajasthan’s Mines and Geology Department has launched a high-level Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) to streamline mineral activities across the state. This move aims to bring more order, better coordination, and real-time tracking to everything from mineral exploration to sustainable mining practices.
Principal Secretary T. Ravikant shared that the PMU will zero in on key areas like boosting exploration efforts, ramping up revenue from minerals, attracting investments, creating jobs, adopting eco-friendly mining techniques, and embracing cutting-edge global technologies. "Rajasthan sits on massive reserves of critical minerals, strategic minerals, major minerals, and minor minerals," Ravikant said. "With the PMU in place, we’ll make the mining sector more vibrant and efficient."
He highlighted how this unit will speed up the launch of auctioned mines, draw in more investments, and open up employment opportunities in Rajasthan’s mining industry. The state already leads in mineral production, and this step could take it to new heights.
The PMU focuses on seven core areas: mineral exploration, mine auctions, quick startup of operations, research and development, sustainable mining, eco-tourism, and going fully paperless. Expert officers now head each area, backed by dedicated teams to offer advice and track progress.
For instance, Alok Jain, CEO of RSMET, leads the exploration and auction team. He’ll work closely with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and other specialists to ramp up exploration and fast-track auctions. Pratap Meena, Superintending Engineer Vigilance in Jaipur, will handle approvals to get auctioned mines up and running quickly.
On the financial side, Girish Kachhara, the Financial Advisor, will monitor revenue generation and ensure no losses to the state treasury. Sunil Kumar, Superintendent Geologist, takes charge of DMFT funds—planning, executing, and watching over them—while studying top practices from other states.
To promote sustainable mining and tech adoption, N.S. Shaktiwat, Superintendent Mining Engineer in Jaipur, will rate mines with a star system, push eco-tourism in closed mines, recycle waste, and introduce automation for paperless operations.
Research and development fall under Jai Gurubakhsani, Superintendent Mining Engineer in Ajmer, with Sanjay Saxena, Superintendent Geologist, as co-lead. They’ll organize conclaves, seminars, training sessions, and build a shared platform for all stakeholders in Rajasthan’s mining sector.
Ravikant stressed the state government’s strong push under Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to position Rajasthan as a mining powerhouse. Recent reforms include the new mineral policy, M-Sand policy, RIPS assistance, and the Amnesty Scheme, all designed to modernize the industry.
The PMU has already kicked off operations and promises to transform Rajasthan’s mineral sector by matching global standards. With these changes, the state eyes sustainable growth, more jobs, and bigger revenues from its rich mineral resources.
