New Delhi, Oct 22 – The Ministry of Steel invites firms and trade groups to an open‑house session on steel imports, taking place on Thursday, Oct 27, at Udyog Bhavan’s steel room in the capital.
The meeting will run from noon to 6 pm. Participants must book a slot by emailing the ministry before 11 am on Oct 24. Only one representative per company or association will be allowed, and walk‑ins are not possible because of logistical limits.
Companies can share concerns about SIMS, NOC, QCO or other import‑related issues. To apply, send an email that includes:
* Company or association name
* Type of industry (auto, aerospace, telecom, defence, etc.)
* Brief description of the issue (max 50 words)
* Name, designation, mobile number and e‑mail of the contact person
* Reference to any SIMS/NOC application, if available
The open‑house is part of India’s effort to shield its steel sector from cheaper imports, especially from China. In April 2025, the government introduced a 12 % temporary safeguard duty on select steel products to protect domestic producers.
Industry analysts say the flood of low‑priced steel from China, Japan and South Korea has forced Indian manufacturers to cut prices, curb capacity usage and lose market share, according to an RBI report.
The Ministry’s initiative underscores the government’s push to keep the steel industry competitive while promoting “Make in India” self‑reliance.
