‘Indira Gandhi’s dream fulfilled’: Pramod Tiwari hails World Cup champions

In a celebration that lit up Delhi on November 3, the Indian women’s cricket team lifted the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 trophy for the first time, sending waves of joy across the country.
Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari posted a video message to the players, saying the win “has put India’s flag in the world.” He linked the victory to the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s dream that Indian women can achieve anything. “Our daughters have succeeded in everything,” Tiwari added, urging fans to shout “Chak De India!”
The final, played at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, saw India beat South Africa by 52 runs. All‑rounder Deepti Sharma was the star: she scored 58 runs and took five wickets, sealing the win. India posted 298 for 7 in 50 overs, and the South African chase stalled at 246 in 45.3 overs, with the Indian bowlers holding firm.
This triumph makes India the third nation—after England and Australia—to win both the men’s and women’s ODI World Cups. It also marks a dramatic comeback after the team lost its first three matches, then knocked out Australia in the semi‑finals and South Africa in the final.
Fans around the globe cheered for a performance hailed as one of the greatest in the tournament’s history. The victory has united cricket lovers worldwide and affirmed India’s growing dominance on the global stage.
