Oklahoma parents charged with murder after ‘malnourished’ family dog fatally mauled 2-year-old daughter

In Oklahoma City, a young mother and father are now on the brink of life‑long imprisonment after their 2‑year‑old daughter, Locklynn Rose McGuire, was found dead in the family home. She was killed by one of the family’s four dogs—a pet that had previously bitten her, leaving her seriously injured but alive. Police received a call that the child was “not breathing,” and when they arrived they discovered Locklynn with what the agency described as “horrific injuries” from a savage animal attack.

Investigators say that the dog had already attacked Locklynn once. That earlier incident left her with severe injuries, but she survived. This time, however, the child was discovered dead after being left alone with the animal for a significant period of time. Oklahoma City Animal Welfare removed all four dogs—three of which were reportedly malnourished—as well as a pair of bearded dragons.

The parents, 24‑year‑old Darci Lambert and 34‑year‑old Jorden McGuire, were initially charged with second‑degree murder. After a deeper look at the case’s “horrendous details,” the charges were upgraded to first‑degree murder, plus two counts of animal cruelty. Both are accused of maliciously allowing the dangerous, malnourished dog to roam near their child, fully aware of the severe risk involved. They could face life in prison, and Oklahoma’s laws also allow the death penalty in certain first‑degree murder cases.

Both parents are currently being held on a $1 million bond. Locklynn was identified publicly through a GoFundMe page set up by extended family members who expressed heartbreak over the loss and the sudden, tragic nature of her death.
