Senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan fired a sharp rebuke at actor‑turned‑politician Vijay and Governor R.N. Ravi on Monday. Speaking to reporters in Vellore, Murugan said the two lacked the political maturity and understanding that the job demands.
He accused Vijay of being silent after a tragedy that claimed 41 lives, saying the actor must answer for the deaths. “He hasn’t stepped forward or given an explanation,” Murugan told the press. “I don’t know how long he will stay quiet or how that benefits him.”
Murugan, known for witty political commentary, added that popularity alone does not make a good leader. “Running a party is hard work. It brings together people from all walks of life. A good leader must watch everything and think wisely, not just focus on themselves,” he said, hinting at Vijay’s new political ambitions and recent controversies surrounding his party.
When asked about Governor Ravi’s recent remarks that poverty is still rampant in Tamil Nadu and that caste discrimination and separatism are rising, Murugan called the governor’s tone “an Act of an opposition leader.” He said Ravi no longer behaves like a monarch, but more like an opposition figure, and that the DMK does not respect his position. Murugan added he would ignore Ravi’s statements, noting that such criticisms have been made by others before.
These comments come amid growing friction between Raj Bhavan and the DMK government and as Vijay’s political entrance sparks debate across Tamil Nadu.
