Punjab’s Health Minister Balbir Singh kicked off the registration for the new Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna on Tuesday, bringing cashless health treatment up to Rs 10 lakh to every one of the state’s 3 crore residents. This big move aims to make healthcare more affordable and accessible across Punjab.
The launch happened virtually from the State Health Agency office in Chandigarh, starting small in Tarn Taran and Barnala districts. Singh, joined by Principal Secretary Kumar Rahul and SHA CEO Sanyam Aggarwal, highlighted how teams set up plenty of registration camps in these areas to help people sign up easily.
Right from day one, 1,480 families jumped on board with the Punjab health insurance scheme. Singh called it a game-changer for the state—the first time any Indian state offers such generous Rs 10 lakh coverage to all citizens, no matter their income level.
“We’ll use what we learn here to roll this out fast across all of Punjab,” Singh said. The scheme tackles a major pain point: high out-of-pocket medical costs that hit families hard. Now, beneficiaries get cashless care at every government hospital and more than 500 partnered private ones statewide.
Getting in is straightforward. You just need your voter ID and Aadhaar card—no income checks or barriers to keep anyone out. The plan covers a ton of treatments through over 2,300 health packages, handling everything from major illnesses and minor issues to accident surgeries.
“This puts a full safety net around every health need for Punjab’s people,” Singh added, emphasizing the comprehensive health insurance in Punjab.
