British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is in Mumbai for his first official trip to India, kicking off a fresh chapter in the India‑UK partnership.
The UK leader met a broad mix of business heads – from CEOs and entrepreneurs to university vice‑chancellors and cultural figures – at the historic Taj Mahal Palace. The crowd was even light‑hearted, with Starmer posing for a selfie using a disposable camera during the event.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed Starmer on X, noting that his arrival marks a new era in the strong and dynamic India‑UK relationship. A tweet from the MEA said the visit would boost trade, technology, defence, climate, health and education ties under the India‑UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, a 10‑year roadmap named Vision 2035.
In Mumbai on October 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Keir Starmer will review progress in key areas—from the upcoming India‑UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) to shared goals on security and climate. They also plan to address a business audience at the 6th Global Fintech Fest, where the leaders will deliver keynotes and talk innovations shaping the future.
The delegation’s 125 members, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, academic leaders and cultural figures, are expected to meet with industry leaders, policymakers and innovators. This visit builds on the momentum from Modi’s July trip to the UK, reaffirming both countries’ vision to create a forward‑looking partnership that benefits people on both sides of the globe.
