2 men arrested for allegedly planting, lighting bomb under Utah news media vehicle

In a shocking incident in Utah, two men face serious accusations after allegedly planting a bomb under a news van and trying to set it off. The event on Friday led to a huge evacuation and kicked off a federal investigation that’s still unfolding.

Authorities arrested 58-year-old Adeeb Nasir and his 31-year-old relative, Adil Justice Ahme Nasir, on Sunday at their home in Magna, Utah. This spot is just under an hour’s drive from the college campus where conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was tragically assassinated last Wednesday. The timing has raised eyebrows, though police haven’t directly linked the two events yet.

According to reports, the suspects hid an incendiary device—basically a fire-starting explosive—under a news media vehicle parked near a busy building. They lit the fuse, but it malfunctioned and didn’t go off, police say. Once officials confirmed it was real, the FBI jumped in to take over the bomb threat investigation. Targeting a news van in such a public place? That’s why things escalated fast.

Federal agents didn’t waste time. Within two days, they traced everything back to the Nasirs’ home. With a search warrant in hand, FBI teams raided the place and found more fake weapons of mass destruction, illegal drugs, and two guns. The men weren’t allowed to own firearms due to their history with narcotics, arrest documents reveal.

When cops questioned them about the hoax devices, both Adeeb and Adil insisted they were genuine. That claim triggered an immediate evacuation of the entire neighborhood and all officers on scene to ensure safety while experts safely disposed of the items. Turns out, they were all fakes—no real danger there, but the scare was real enough.

Adeeb Nasir now faces heavy charges, including two counts of possession of a weapon of mass destruction and two counts of threat of terrorism. He’s locked up in Salt Lake County Jail without bail. Adil hasn’t been formally charged yet, but the case is moving quickly.

The two men shared the same house, but their exact family ties aren’t clear from official reports. As the FBI digs deeper into this Utah bomb plot, authorities are urging anyone with tips on potential threats to come forward. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
