Delhi CM tweaks rules to boost careers of over 250 accounts officers

New Delhi – The Delhi government has announced a key change that will boost the careers of more than 250 officers in the Accounts Service.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the state will now merge and upgrade the post of Accounts Officer into the senior grade of Senior Accounts Officer – a Group A gazetted role. The change is effective immediately and lifts the position from Pay Level 9 to Pay Level 10 in the state’s pay matrix.

This move follows the same updates issued by the Ministry of Finance, the Controller General of Accounts, and the Ministry of Home Affairs in India. The upgrade gives officials higher salary, better job prospects, and faster promotion routes within the Delhi administrative framework.

Under the new scheme, every existing Accounts Officer post in the Delhi Government Accounts Service will be redesignated as a Senior Accounts Officer at Pay Level 10. The feeder cadre will change too: the Assistant Accounts Officer (previously Pay Level 8) will now serve as the direct stepping‑stone for promotion to the senior role.

CM Gupta said the decision is a significant step in the state’s ongoing administrative reforms and will strengthen the efficiency of the government’s financial functions.
