‘Shivakumar will continue as K’taka Cong chief till the party wants him to’, says D.K. Suresh
Bengaluru, Nov 16 – Former Congress MP D.K. Suresh told reporters in his Sadashivanagar home that his brother, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president, D.K. Shivakumar, will follow whatever decision the Congress high‑command makes about a cabinet reshuffle.
“Sivakumar will obey the high‑command’s decision. Everyone must listen to the high‑command, there’s no doubt,” Suresh said. “He’s not holding onto the post. The party has asked him to keep working, and he will keep working as long as the party gives him a chance.”
When asked who decides where cabinet seats go, the former MP clarified that it is a “Congress high‑command and the CM decision.” He said he has read media reports on the reshuffle and will wait to hear the formal announcement.
Suresh added that any leadership changes depend solely on the party’s top leaders, not on media speculation or other voices. He also said he might visit the high‑command in Delhi if an opportunity arises during his own trip, which he has already made for work purposes.
These comments come as CM Siddaramaiah returns from a day‑long Delhi visit and plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Siddaramaiah is reportedly in favour of the reshuffle, while Deputy CM Shivakumar has more reservations.
The party’s national leaders are likely to discuss the reshuffle in detail in Delhi. Senior ministers will receive new responsibilities, sources say, as Congress seeks to balance experience with fresh energy in Karnataka’s cabinet.
