Gujarat: Kisan Credit Card and NFDB registration camp held in Jamnagar

In Jamnagar district, Gujarat, a special camp for Kisan Credit Cards and National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) registrations kicked off on Wednesday in Jodia. Raghavjibhai Patel, the state’s Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Rural Development, and Rural Housing, led the event and handed out licences to around 50 Pagadia fishermen, boosting their access to key benefits.

Gujarat stays ahead in India’s fisheries sector, thanks to its long coastline that supports thousands of livelihoods. Jamnagar boasts a 170-kilometer stretch of shore, and Jodia ranks as one of its six top fishing hubs. Most folks here rely on fishing to get by, so the government is rolling out identity cards through the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) to make things smoother—from easier identification to quicker access to aid.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has honored fishermen with the “Sagarkhedu” title and rolled out welfare schemes to lift their incomes. The push includes building better ports, jetties, and fishing areas to help them thrive.

Under the Climate Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages (CRCFV) program, the central government picked eight Gujarat villages for upgrades, including Jodia and Sachana in Jamnagar. Each spot gets Rs 2 crore for improvements like fixing Jodia’s jetty, adding a high-mast tower for safety, installing solar street lights, creating a port working shed, and setting up solar panels to charge boat batteries.

Fishermen at Jamnagar’s Bedi port, which supports about 350 nearby villages, say they’re thrilled with the changes. They point to Modi government’s initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), as real game-changers for their daily lives.

The NFDP ties into the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY), a key part of PMMSY. Any fisherman can sign up online, grab a digital certificate, and stay updated on schemes and support. It’s all about connecting them directly to help.

Local fisherman Shabir Hussain shared with , “I’m getting tons of benefits from these schemes—they’re making a big difference.”

Kasam, another fisherman from the area, chimed in: “I just got my NFDP card, and it’s a lifesaver for loans. No more hassles. PM Modi’s programs are genuinely helping us out.”
