Brute on probation allegedly beat ex to death inside motel, fled with their 2-year-old son: report
A man in Westchester County has been charged with murder after he allegedly beat his 32‑year‑old former girlfriend, Roseberline Philippe, to death in a Days Inn motel room in Elmsford and then fled with their 2‑year‑old son.
Police found Philippe’s battered body on Sunday night in Room 230 of the Days Inn. A cleaning crew slipped past the door and discovered a woman who had suffered repeated blows. The scene was grim and the investigation quickly turned to an arrest.
Justin Bartley, 32, was seized by a task force that included local village, county, and FBI officers later that day. He was taken to court and is now held without bail. Bartley faces a murder charge and is also being looked at for other offenses, including a pending drunken driving case in White Plains and a weapons‑possession charge from a May arrest in Rockland County. He has a history of gun‑related convictions and was on probation at the time of the incident.
According to a security video shot at the motel, Bartley and Philippe were at the hotel together on Sunday. The footage shows Bartley attacking her for an extended period before abandoning her body and escaping with their young son. He headed to Bronx‑based family, prompting police to work quickly to locate and arrest him.
Yvena Philippe, Roseberline’s sister, described the victim as “sweet” and “always laughing,” even when dealing with difficult life circumstances. She said her sister met Bartley back in high school but grew fearful once they had a child together. On Saturday, Bartley allegedly appeared at Roseberline’s parents’ home in White Plains and demanded to leave. Yvena recalled that her family had a tense encounter with him before the murder.
“This was never about safety. We thought she’d come home,” Yvena told reporters. “But I think he had a plan to keep her from returning.”
The case has drawn attention across Westchester County, raising questions about domestic violence safety and community protection. Chicago police? Not relevant – the focus stays local. The Days Inn in Elmsford remains a subject of scrutiny as the investigation continues.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with additional evidence or tips about the whereabouts of the 2‑year‑old or any other details to come forward. The man remains in custody as prosecutors work through the case.
