UP govt charts roadmap for $6 trillion economy by 2047; special focus on AI, green energy, agri-tech sectors
Uttar Pradesh’s Big Plan: From ‘Bimaru’ State to $6 Trillion Powerhouse by 2047
The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is rolling out an exciting roadmap to transform the state into a "Viksit Uttar Pradesh – Samarth Uttar Pradesh @2047". This vision focuses on all-round growth, turning UP into a $1 trillion economy by 2030 and a massive $6 trillion economy by 2047. To hit these targets, the state needs a steady 16% annual growth rate, and they’re gearing up with smart strategies across key areas.
At the heart of this plan are future-ready industries like artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, green energy, and agritech. These sectors promise to drive innovation and create jobs. The blueprint covers 12 vital areas: agriculture, IT and emerging technology, health, education, industry, social welfare, rural and urban development, tourism, hospitality, livestock, sustainable development, and governance.
The framework builds on three core missions – ‘Samagra Vikas’ for all-round development, ‘Aarthik Netrutva’ for economic leadership, and ‘Sanskritik Punarjagran’ for cultural renaissance. It also highlights three key themes: Arth Shakti (economic power), Srijan Shakti (creative energy), and Jeevan Shakti (vital life force). This mix aims to boost UP’s economy while preserving its rich heritage.
Remember how Uttar Pradesh used to be labeled one of the "Bimaru" states, struggling with weak law and order, poor infrastructure, and low investor interest? Things have changed big time. The Yogi government cracked down with police modernisation, command-and-control centres, and Operation Conviction, which shot up conviction rates and restored safety. Investors now trust UP, pouring in over Rs 45 lakh crore at the 2023 UP Global Investors’ Summit. Out of that, Rs 15 lakh crore has already turned into real projects.
Job creation is a top priority. The state is pushing Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and IT hubs to bring Fortune 500 companies to cities like Noida and Lucknow. A new GCC policy will make these spots global tech magnets. Plus, renewable energy projects, smart city builds, and supply chain upgrades will create millions of jobs for medium- and low-skilled workers.
In rural UP, agritech and cold chain initiatives will spark local employment and cut down migration to cities. Skills development programs and public-private partnerships will make sure everyone gets a shot at these opportunities.
Looking ahead, UP is betting big on cutting-edge fields like AI, biotechnology, renewable energy, agritech, quantum tech, cybersecurity, and the metaverse. Experts say high-value services from GCCs and IT-AI hubs will boost exports. Green manufacturing and e-mobility clusters will supercharge production, while agritech reforms strengthen the rural economy. Biotechnology and medical R&D will open doors to specialized jobs and new export markets.
With this ambitious push, Uttar Pradesh is set to leap from its past challenges to a shining future as India’s economic powerhouse.
