Hyderabad, Dec. 28 – Police reports said that a total of seven people lost their lives in three separate crashes across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
The first incident involved three young men who were riding a motorbike when it plunged into a ditch on a section of the Nizampet‑Bidar highway. The accident happened on the outskirts of Narayankhed in Sangareddy district. Authorities say the bike fell into a culvert pit that had been recently excavated as part of the 46‑km highway project linking Nizampet to Bidar, Karnataka. The victims – avuti Narasimhulu (27), Jinna Mallesh (24) and Jinna Mahesh (23) – were all from Narsapur in Narayankhed mandal. They died at the scene and their bodies were moved to a government hospital in Sangareddy for autopsies. The police have opened a case and will continue their investigation.
The highway’s construction faced scrutiny after heavy rains in May caused standing water at various points, exposing design flaws. With a budget of ₹300 crore, the route has suffered frequent traffic disruptions because of the water buildup.
A second tragedy occurred in Jagtial district when a trolley vehicle collided with a bicycle near Gollapalli, killing the two riders instantly. The couple – Lingaiah (50) and Lacchava (48) – were residents of Abdullapur in Jagtial. The impact was severe enough that both victims died on the spot.
The third fatality report concerned a van that crashed into a roadside tree at Gajapatinagar in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh. Two occupants were killed. Police identified the deceased as P. Vinay Kumar and Dinesh, both from Visakhapatnam. They had been travelling back to Visakhapatnam from Rayagada in Odisha. According to officials, the van driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision and subsequent death of both passengers.
All incidents were registered by the respective police stations, which are conducting further investigations.
