$1.6 Billion Powerball Jackpot Swells After No Winner on Saturday
The Powerball jackpot climbed to a staggering $1.6 billion after Saturday’s drawing produced no claiming ticket holders, keeping the game’s fourth‑largest prize on the line. The drawn numbers were 4, 5, 28, 52, 69, with the Powerball being 20. The next opportunity for prizes comes on Monday night.
The prize has been inflating for three months, with the current streak at 45 consecutive drawings—an all‑time record for a Powerball jackpot that has not been won since September 6.
Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, highlighted the magnitude of the stake: “This jackpot is set to deliver the ultimate windfall,” he said. “The jackpot grows with every $2 ticket sold, and a portion of each ticket supports local public programs and services. We encourage everyone to have fun and play responsibly,” he added.
A winning ticket matching all five numbers and the Powerball lets the holder choose between 30 annual payments or a one‑time cash option. The lump‑sum estimate stands at roughly $735.3 million before taxes, a figure smaller than the advertised jackpot because it reflects the total annuitized payouts.
The largest win in Powerball history came in November 2022 when 31‑year‑old Edwin Castro of California collected a $2.04 billion jackpot. Castro opted for the $998 million lump sum and, after taxes, kept about $628 million, according to the California Lottery.
The most recent jackpot, won in September, was split between two tickets, each receiving $1.787 billion—the second‑largest U.S. lottery prize ever awarded.
