Three arrested in gangrape of two minor sisters in Jharkhand’s Gumla, hunt on for others

In Gumla district of Jharkhand, police have taken three young men into custody after a shocking gang‑rape of two minor sisters. The police team, under the Gumla superintendent’s orders, traced the suspects and arrested them in a swift operation.

The men arrested — 19‑year‑old Vishwas Oraon, 21‑year‑old Birbal Oraon and 19‑year‑old Prakash Oraon — were handcuffed and sent to the local jail following medical checks and court orders. Police say the other suspects are still at large and new arrests are expected soon.

The crime happened late Friday night. While walking home from a cultural event, the sisters accepted a lift from a scooter driver. He diverted them to a remote spot where five to six men attacked and raped the girls. The survivors managed to return home, told their family, and the following day their parents filed an FIR at Bharno police station.

Police acted quickly. They formed a special team that used mobile‑tracking, CCTV clues and local informants to locate the attackers. Female officers led the investigation to keep the process sensitive to the victims. After the survivors finished medical examinations, authorities pledged full legal and emotional support.

The District Child Protection Unit and the Women’s Helpline are now working with the sisters’ family, offering counseling and other assistance.

Police officials have promised to catch every suspect and deliver justice as fast as possible, emphasizing their commitment to keeping community safety a top priority.
