3-year-old boy orphaned when wrong-way drunken driver crashes into family car, killing his mom, dad and 5-year-old sister: cops

A 3‑year‑old boy who was named Dieguito has been left a survivor after a tragic head‑on collision on Saturday night, which claimed the lives of his mother, father, and 5‑year‑old sister.
The family was traveling home from a Christmas party when their vehicle on Highway 99 in Fort Bend County, Texas, was struck by a wrong‑way driver allegedly under the influence. The incident occurred around 2 a.m., according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.

Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, a 27‑year‑old fourth‑grade teacher at Metcalf Elementary School in Houston, and her daughter Camila Pena, 5, died at the scene. Dieguito’s father, Diego Perez Jr., 26, and Dieguito were rushed to the hospital, but the father succumbed to his injuries.
Police and family reports say Dieguito, described as a” sweet and innocent boy,” remains in critical but stable condition as of Christmas Eve. He will undergo surgeries and is currently receiving extensive medical care. Family members are raising a GoFundMe campaign to support the toddler’s ongoing treatment and future needs.

“The emotional and financial weight of this loss is overwhelming for everyone involved,” wrote grieving relatives. “No family should ever have to plan funerals for three loved ones while also worrying about the medical care and future of a surviving child.”

The individual who caused the crash, 27‑year‑old Majesti Faith Lee, was transported by Life Flight and treated for injuries that did not threaten his life. While police confirmed alcohol played a role, Lee was arrested on Wednesday and charged with intoxicated manslaughter, enhanced to a first‑degree felony, along with one count of intoxication assault. He is currently held in Fort Bend County Jail on a $1,050,000 bond.

Sheriff Eric Fagan said, “Our hearts are with the family as they endure an unimaginable loss. This tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be changed when impaired driving occurs, and why making responsible choices behind the wheel is so critical.”

Contreras was beloved by students and colleagues alike, and relatives say her little sister had been the “mini‑me” who followed her mother into preschool. Diego Perez Jr., a skilled handyman, loved seeing his son replicate his workshop projects around the house.
