In West Bengal’s Birbhum district, two young boys are accused of sexually assaulting a ninth‑grade girl at the home of her tutor in Suri.
The incident happened late on Friday night. The girl was told by her classmates that the tutor wanted her to come early for a lesson at 7 p.m. She left home to meet them, only to find the teacher missing. According to police, the two boys led her into a room in the tutor’s house and assaulted her before returning to their homes.
When she got home, the 14‑year‑old broke down and told her parents what had happened. Her parents filed a complaint, and the police arrested the two students. They were taken to the Suri Juvenile Justice Board that afternoon.
Police have opened a case under Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The girls’ medical examination is finished, and her confidential statement will be heard by a judicial magistrate on Monday.
Investigators are still looking into what happened and will decide on further action after reviewing the medical and forensic reports. The case highlights concerns about child safety in private tuition settings across West Bengal.
