National Lok Adalat to be held across India today to settle civil, criminal cases

India’s courts are buzzing today with the National Lok Adalat, a one-day event that’s helping millions clear their pending cases quickly and without hassle. Organized by legal services authorities across all states, this initiative focuses on settling disputes through friendly compromises, especially for everyday issues like traffic challans.

If you’ve got a minor traffic violation hanging over you—think overspeeding, riding without a helmet, skipping a seatbelt, or missing a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate—this is your chance to sort it out. Head to your local court and you could pay a reduced fine or even get a full waiver, based on the offense. It’s all about making justice faster and easier for regular folks.

In New Delhi, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) is running sessions at the Delhi High Court, district courts, Debt Recovery Tribunals, the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, and Permanent Lok Adalats. These run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., so plan your visit accordingly.

The best part? Lok Adalat settlements mean quick resolutions, no court fees refunded where applicable, and the decisions are final—no appeals allowed. For Delhi residents, you can pre-register for traffic challan settlements on the official Delhi Traffic Police website. Just remember to bring your e-challan copy and ID proof when you show up.

This isn’t just happening in the capital. States like Maharashtra are holding Lok Adalats in Mumbai and other cities, tackling civil cases, compoundable criminal matters, consumer disputes, and traffic violations. It’s a nationwide push by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to make legal help accessible and affordable.

National Lok Adalats happen four times a year, and they’re a game-changer for clearing backlogs in India’s busy courts. Authorities expect to resolve millions of cases today, easing the load on the judicial system and letting people move on with their lives through simple reconciliations. If you’re dealing with a pending case, don’t miss out—it’s your shot at speedy justice!
