Mumbai is gearing up for its biggest tech event yet, the MumbaiHacks 2025 hackathon. The event, run by the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM) and the non‑profit Made in Mumbai community, will take place on November 28‑29, 2025 at the NESCO Mumbai venue. Teams aged 18 and older can compete for up to ₹50 lakhs in prizes by building intelligent systems powered by Agentic AI—the newest wave of autonomous artificial intelligence that takes decisions and actions on its own.
What is Agentic AI?
Unlike generative AI that simply produces content from prompts, or rule‑based AI that follows predetermined instructions, Agentic AI learns by interacting with its environment. It can perceive, decide, act, and improve without constant human input. Think of a robot that spots problems, comes up with a plan, and carries out the plan—anywhere from hospitals to banks to the fight against misinformation.
Three Problem‑Shooting Tracks
| Track | Challenge | Idea |
|---|---|---|
| Healthtech | Predict hospital needs during festivals, pollution events, or disease outbreaks | Build a system that pulls real‑time data, forecasts patient surges, and suggests staffing, supplies, and public warnings |
| Fintech | Help gig workers and informal sector earners manage irregular incomes | Create a smart financial coach that learns each user’s habits, pulls in bank and market data, and offers on‑call advice |
| Misinformation | Spot false stories during crises like pandemics or conflicts | Develop an AI agent that scans social media, checks facts, and delivers simple, trustworthy explanations |
Each track invites teams to design autonomous models that tackle real‑world problems head‑on.
Why Mumbai?
Mumbai already leads India’s startup scene, with more than 3,000 participants expected for the hackathon and support from 85+ unicorn and soon‑unicorn founders via TEAM. The city’s talent pool is huge: IIT‑Bombay and other institutes churn out 35,000+ engineers every year, and over 250 AI startups have already incubated there. Many of Mumbai’s tech giants are profitable and AI‑driven, and experts say AI will account for 15 % of the city’s GDP by 2035.
How It Works
- Round 1 (Online) – Submit a short proposal by October 17. Mentors evaluate ideas on innovation, user impact, market potential, and viability.
- Round 2 (In‑person) – Shortlisted teams pitch live on November 28‑29. Winners in each track win a share of the ₹50 lakh prize pool.
The judging panel features leaders from LXME, PharmEasy, IDfy, and Inshorts, among others, bringing deep industry insight.
