Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited De Hardun on Sunday to join Uttarakhand’s 25th Foundation Day celebrations. He praised the state for “remarkable” growth and said the journey of development shows how the people’s determination and the government’s policies have worked together.
### New projects boost Uttarakhand’s infrastructure
During the event Modi laid the foundation stones for development projects worth more than ₹8,140 crore. He also handed over project approvals worth ₹930 crore and opened the starting point for new works totaling ₹7,210 crore. The projects cover key areas such as drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports and skill development.
### A trip that inspired a promise
Modi recalled his earlier spiritual visits to Uttarakhand, saying these trips kept him inspired by the hard work of the mountain people. He remembered saying that “this decade belongs to Uttarakhand” after praying at Baba Kedar, a promise he feels is energized now that the state has reached half a century of achievement.
### From modest beginnings to a booming budget
When Uttarakhand was created in 2000, its budget was just ₹4,000 crore. Modi highlighted that today it exceeds ₹1 lakh crore – a dramatic jump that shows how the state has transformed. He noted other leaps: electricity production has quadrupled, roads have doubled in length, and tourism has grown from 4,000 to over 6,000 visitors a year.
### Education and health strides
The number of engineering colleges has grown more than ten times. Where the state once had only one medical college, there are now ten. These gains underline how the BJP-led government is expanding opportunities for young people.
### Support for farmers
The prime minister also released ₹62 crore from the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, directly deposited into the bank accounts of more than 28,000 farmers, as part of the state’s rural development agenda.
### A message for the future
Modi stressed that Uttarakhand is “fully determined” to help achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He paid tribute to those who sacrificed during the statehood protests and congratulated everyone on the silver‑jubilee celebrations, reminding the crowd that Uttarakhand’s progress is a symbol of collective effort.
Uttarakhand – also known as Devbhoomi or “the land of gods” – rose from a people’s movement to a model of balanced development on November 9, 2000. Today, as it marks 25 years, the state showcases its journey through an exhibition of achievements in infrastructure, education, health, tourism, power and rural development.
