Israeli forces carried out a targeted airstrike in Gaza’s Shati area, killing a key Hamas commander named Wael Matria. The operation, led by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet, the country’s internal security service, hit the Shati battalion’s Nahkba section in Gaza City.
Matria played a direct role in the brutal October 7 attack on the Nahal Oz military outpost, part of the devastating Hamas assault that killed over 1,200 people and sparked the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Since then, he has helped plan attacks against IDF troops in the Gaza Strip, making him a high-priority target in Israel’s fight against Hamas terrorism.
This strike highlights Israel’s continued efforts to dismantle Hamas leadership amid the conflict, which has seen intense fighting and airstrikes across Gaza.
