Ahmedabad to host grand ‘Pramukh Varni Amrut Mahotsav’ today; HM Amit Shah to attend

Ahmedabad, Dec 7 (ANS) – The city will host a grand spiritual event this Sunday at the Riverfront Event Centre. The celebration, called the “Pramukh Varni Amrut Mahotsav,” coincides with the 104th anniversary of Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s birth and marks 75 years since he first became President of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.
Key figures will attend, including BAPS spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and several other dignitaries. The program will feature a special cultural assembly honoring Swami Maharaj’s lifelong humanitarian work, followed by a unique river display. The Sabarmati will showcase thematically‑themed floating tableaux that illustrate his life, values, and global impact.
The roots of Swami Maharaj’s leadership date back to 21 May 1950, when Shastriji Maharaj appointed the then‑28‑year‑old Shastri Narayanswarupdas as the lifelong President of BAPS at the mandir in Ambli Vali Pol, Shahpur. From that point on, he was affectionately called Pramukh Swami Maharaj, eventually rising to become a worldwide spiritual guide. On that day, he vowed unwavering devotion to his guru and to the organization, promising self‑less service for the spiritual and material well‑being of devotees.
Ambli Vali Pol remains a landmark in BAPS history, hosting the organization’s first Ahmedabad mandir (1940), the first Gujarati magazine (1938), the young Swami’s parshad diksha (1939), and pivotal decisions that propelled the worldwide expansion of BAPS. In the lead‑up to the 75‑year milestone, thousands of devotees traveled to the site over the past year to commemorate his appointment.
The main ceremony will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., featuring multimedia presentations, cultural performances, and tributes that capture his message of peace, service, and compassion. A highlight will be the themed river floats that weave a visual narrative of Swami Maharaj’s life and philanthropic endeavors. Preparations for this large‑scale event have been underway for two months.
More than 40,000 devotees are expected to attend, with coordinated bus transport, dedicated parking zones, and traffic support arranged along the Riverfront.
