Khandwa, Nov 3 — Police in Madhya Pradesh uncovered a large fake‑money operation hidden inside a madrasa in Rehtiya village. The raid, carried out by the Jawar police station, seized counterfeit rupee notes worth about ₹19 lakh and the printing machine used to make them.
The bust followed the arrest of mosque imam Zuber Ansari (also referred to as Zuber, son of Asraf) in Malegaon, Maharashtra. Ansari had been caught with ₹10 lakh in fake notes, prompting a cross‑state raid that linked the two incidents.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahendra Tarnekar said, “The accused is a Maulana who used his religious role to run a counterfeit‑money printing business. We seized a currency‑printing machine, bundles of fake ₹500 and ₹100 notes, and suspicious documents from the room above the madrasa. We are following the Malegaon link and have video evidence. Our teams remain on the scene.”
Investigators are still counting the notes, which are mainly ₹500 and ₹100 denominations. The breakthrough came when Maharashtra police intercepted Ansari and an accomplice in Malegaon while they were circulating the fakes. Witnessing the Khandwa connection, Jawar police stormed the Rehtiya madrasa.
Senior police officials confirmed they entered the madrasa premises, where Ansari had been staying for months. “We received a video that led us to act swiftly and seized ₹19 lakh in counterfeit money,” an officer remarked.
A case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing to trace the network’s suppliers and distributors. The madrasa remains sealed, and authorities suspect an interstate racket possibly using advanced printing technology to replicate security features.
This operation highlights the vulnerability of remote areas to counterfeit‑money schemes. Police urge banks and citizens to report any suspicious notes, as probes into smuggling routes that frequently facilitate such cases continue to deepen.
