Mumbai, Dec 11 ( LatestNewsX) — To mark the 103rd anniversary of Dilip Kumar’s birth, veteran actor Jackie Shroff paid a touching homage to the late icon, insisting that “always in our hearts”.
Shroff turned to Instagram Stories, sharing a black‑and‑white clip from the 1958 classic “Madhumati”. The moment shows Kumar performing the track “Dil Tadap Tadap Ke”, originally rendered by Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh.
“Madhumati”, directed by Bimal Roy, also features Vyjayanthimala, Pran and Johnny Walker. The film tells the tale of Anand, a modern man who falls for a tribal woman named Madhumati, and the couple’s love is tested by obstacles that eventually lead to a supernatural twist.
For the caption, Jackie wrote: “Always in our hearts #dilipkumar.”
Kumar’s career, which spanned more than five decades, began with the 1944 film Jwar Bhata. He became a mainstay of Indian cinema with a string of box‑office hits from the late 1940s through the 1960s, including Shaheed, Andaz, Babul, Deedar, Aan, Uran Khatola, Insaniyat, Azaad, Naya Daur, Madhumati, Paigham, Kohinoor, Mughal‑E‑Azam, Gunga Jumna and Ram Aur Shyam.
Among his most celebrated roles are those in Nadiya Ke Paar, Shabnam, Jogan, Tarana, Daag, Sangdil, Shikast, Footpath, Amar, Devdas, Musafir, Yahudi, Leader, Aadmi, and Sunghursh.
The 1970s proved challenging for the star, with only Gopi breaking through. After a brief hiatus in 1976, he returned with the landmark film Kranti and continued to feature in leading parts in movies such as Vidhaata, Karma and Saudagar.
Kumar’s final appearance was in the poorly received Qila, where he portrayed dual characters.
He died at the age of 98 in 2021 after a prolonged illness; he had struggled with several age‑related conditions and was ultimately diagnosed with pleural effusion.
