Itanagar – On Saturday, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu each met with Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Director General Lt. Gen. Raghu Srinivasan to go over the status of the state’s major road works.
A Lok Bhavan source said the Governor and the BRO DG met to discuss enhancing strategic links to border districts, keeping roads in good shape, and setting up fast‑response plans for any closures that might cut off travel. The Governor opened with thanks for the BRO’s successful completion of ten “strategically vital roads” and 22 bridges under the Arunank, Udayak, Vartak and Brahmank projects. These key links were largely opened on 7 December by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, a milestone the official highlighted as a turning point in the state’s development.
Parnaik (Retd.) noted that the new infrastructure would boost military manoeuvring, allow year‑round access to remote and sensitive zones, and sharpen the armed forces’ readiness for rapid deployment. He added that the improved road network will also deliver tangible socio‑economic gains to local communities, spurring growth and lifting livelihoods across the state.
The Governor lauded the BRO for its people‑centred work, from medical outreach camps in isolated villages to the establishment of Play & Learning Rooms for children of temporary labourers who help build the roads. “Such efforts reflect the BRO’s deep commitment not only to national security but also to the welfare of the people it serves,” he remarked.
During the briefing, the BRO DG updated the Governor on progress, setbacks, and the organisation’s pledge to deliver top‑quality roads and infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh.
On his official X account, CM Khandu wrote: “A productive morning interaction with DGBR Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan and senior officers of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and Tawang DC Ms Namgyal Angmo, IAS. A comprehensive review was undertaken on the progress of road projects executed by BRO, along with discussions on critical ground‑level issues.” The CM went on to affirm that the BRO remains a cornerstone of national security while also driving socio‑economic progress in the border regions, even in the most challenging terrain.
A senior government official said the BRO is vital for building strategic infrastructure along India’s frontiers. He added that in Arunachal Pradesh, the BRO has tackled the harshest conditions to link some of the most isolated areas. These efforts have not only enabled rapid troop movement but also connected border villages, turning them into emerging hubs of development. With international borders adjoining China, Bhutan and Myanmar, Arunachal Pradesh sits at a key geopolitical crossroads.
Robust road networks are therefore essential, not just for defence logistics but also for projecting India’s presence in remote corners. With mounting activity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), building border roads has become a national priority, and the BRO—backed by central and state governments—continues to lead the charge.
