JP Nadda to host BJP MPs in Delhi ahead of Vice-Presidential polls

In a key move ahead of the upcoming Vice-Presidential election, BJP President J.P. Nadda will meet with party lawmakers in Delhi on Saturday. The purpose of the meeting is to plan strategies and prepare for the election scheduled for September 9. The BJP has officially invited all its MPs to the national capital, where they will also enjoy a dinner hosted by Nadda, strengthening party coordination.

The election sees India’s major alliances fielding candidates. The NDA (National Democratic Alliance) has nominated Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, while the opposition bloc, INDIA, has chosen former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy.

BJP MPs are busy with a packed schedule until the election. From Saturday to Monday, they will participate in two workshops and attend two dinners. On Sunday, MPs will gather for a full-day workshop at the GMC Balayogi auditorium in Parliament. The next day, they will have another three-hour session to fine-tune their strategies.

That evening, NDA MPs will meet for dinner with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, strengthening their unity before the vote. The election will take place on September 9, with Radhakrishnan enjoying a strong lead over Reddy, the opposition candidate.

Looking at the numbers, Radhakrishnan has the edge. India’s Parliament has 543 MPs in the Lok Sabha (Lower House) and 233 in the Rajya Sabha (Upper House). The BJP has 240 MPs in Lok Sabha and 102 in Rajya Sabha. With support from allies, the NDA’s total support reaches around 421 MPs in the Lower House and 128 in the Upper House, giving them a clear advantage.

On the other side, opposition parties in the INDIA bloc have 235 MPs in Lok Sabha and 77 in Rajya Sabha, totaling around 312 MPs. If the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with 11 MPs, supports Radhakrishnan, the total opposition strength increases to approximately 325.

Other parties like the YSRCP also support the NDA candidate, adding their 11 MPs to the tally. This support boosts Radhakrishnan’s numbers further, making his position even more comfortable and giving him a significant lead over his opponent.

The BJP has also urged opposition parties in Tamil Nadu to unite behind Radhakrishnan, warning them not to repeat the mistakes made when they refused support for Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam during his second presidential term.

This high-stakes election hinges on party support and strategic alliances, making it a crucial event in Indian politics.
