Mumbai, November 7 – Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that this year’s 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2025) will focus on new voices in cinema.
The minister said the festival will roll out fresh programmes to give young filmmakers a stage to show their work, swap ideas and reach a global audience.
“**IFFI 2025 is a milestone for inclusivity and diversity,” Vaishnaw told reporters. “We’re celebrating world cinema while shining a light on India’s regional films. By adding programmes for budding directors and digital storytellers, we’re nurturing talent and honoring the digital evolution of filmmaking.”
Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, added that the event reflects India’s commitment to cinema as a universal language. “With a broadened emphasis on sustainable filmmaking and immersive experiences, IFFI will reaffirm India’s role as a leader in film artistry and tech innovation,” he said.
The festival kicks off in Goa on November 20 and will run until 28. The lineup is packed: more than 240 films from 81 countries, 13 world premieres, 4 international premieres and 46 Asian premieres.
Opening night will feature the sci‑fi fantasy drama “The Blue Trail” by Brazilian director Gabriel Mascaro. The Gala Premieres section will showcase 18 titles, including 13 world premieres, 2 Asia premieres, one Indian premiere and two special showcase screenings. Expect a star‑studded red‑carpet welcome for filmmakers and actors.
IFA 2025 will also pay tribute to legendary filmmakers celebrating a centenary: Guru Dutt, Raj Khosla, Ritwik Ghatak, P. Bhanumathi, Bhupen Hazarika and Salil Chowdhury. Their classic masterpieces will be screened as part of the festival’s homage.
