In Brisbane on Wednesday, 14-year-old Indian cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history by smashing the record for the most sixes in Youth ODI cricket. During his explosive 70-run knock off 68 balls in the second match between India U-19 and Australia U-19 at Ian Healy Oval, he powered India to a strong total of 301 in 49.4 overs.
Suryavanshi’s innings lit up the field with five fours and six massive sixes, including the one that broke former India U-19 captain Unmukt Chand’s mark of 38 sixes from 21 matches. Incredibly, the young left-hander achieved 41 sixes in just 10 innings, surging ahead of stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who holds 30 maximums in 27 Youth ODIs. He reached his half-century off 54 balls before Australia captain Yash Deshmukh got him out, leaving India at 117 for 2 after 18.3 overs.
This performance followed his quick 38 off 22 balls in India’s seven-wicket win in the first ODI of the series. Teaming up with opener Vihaan Malhotra, who also scored 70, Suryavanshi gave India a solid start despite an early wicket of Ayush Mhatre. At the time of writing, Australia U-19 struggled at 96 for 4 in 26.4 overs while chasing the target.
Suryavanshi’s rise has been meteoric. Earlier this year, he topped the run charts in the five-match India U-19 series against England U-19, piling up 355 runs at an average of 71 and a strike rate of 174.01. In the IPL 2025 auction, he became the youngest player ever bought, then shattered records again as the youngest centurion with a blistering 35-ball 100 for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans. He wrapped up the season with 252 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 206.56, earning the Super Striker of the Season award and turning heads worldwide.
