Chhattisgarh govt to extend power scheme up to 200 units: CM Sai

Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced that the state’s BJP‑led government will lift its “half‑bill” electricity scheme from 100 to 200 units per month. The change means households that use up to 200 units will only pay half of their electric bill, a move aimed at easing costs for millions of residents.

The announcement was made at the state assembly, where a special one‑day session marked 25 years since the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly was set up. Sai told reporters that the government wants the anniversary to be historic by offering more benefits to citizens.

“Chhattisgarh has grown a lot in the past 25 years, and we’ll keep pushing that growth,” he said. He also stressed that the BJP government will keep delivering both central and state schemes to help people.

Earlier this year, the government had sharply cut the limit from 400 to 100 units, a decision that drew criticism from Congress. The “half‑bill” plan was first introduced in 2019 under former Congress Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, and it currently covers more than 45 lakh (4.5 million) domestic consumers in the state.

Congress President Deepak Baij responded to Sai’s statement by saying his party has been urging the BJP to restore the 400‑unit limit that Congress set in 2019. The one‑day assembly session was part of Chhattisgarh’s broader 25‑year celebration, which started on November 1.
