West Ham’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka set to make debut for DR Congo after switching from England
Good news for football fans! Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the talented defender who plays for West Ham United, is about to take a big step in his international career. He has been called up by the DR Congo national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers and is ready to represent his parents’ homeland.
Wan-Bissaka was born in Croydon, England, and has already played for England’s youth teams. He appeared in U20 and U21 matches, even competing in the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. But now, he’s decided to switch his international allegiance and represent DR Congo at the senior level.
This change means Wan-Bissaka will be making his debut for the Leopards, DR Congo’s national team, in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. DR Congo is eager to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1974 when they played as Zaire.
The Leopards are preparing for some crucial matches. Their next games include a trip to South Sudan and a home match against Senegal. These games are part of the CAF Group B qualifiers taking place in early September.
Currently, DR Congo leads Group B with 13 points from six matches. Senegal is close behind with 12 points, and Sudan also has 12 points. Only the top team will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the second-place team will get a chance through a playoff match.
Other teams in the group include Togo, South Sudan, and Mauritania, but they are unlikely to reach the top spots.
DR Congo will face South Sudan at Juba Stadium this Friday before hosting Senegal at home in Kinshasa on September 9. Winning both matches could set the Leopards on the path to qualify for the World Cup. Their next matches in October are against Togo and Sudan, which will be critical for their chances.
Fans will be excited to see Wan-Bissaka don the DR Congo jersey and help his team chase World Cup hope!
