Mob of teen e-bikers brutally attack random stranger — then snap pic of him, thinking he’s dead: reports
A shocking video that has spread online shows a group of teenage e‑bike riders viciously attacking an unknown man as he walked home through an upscale neighborhood in Hermosa Beach, California. The footage, shot by a bystander, captures the man—identified only as a man in his 60s—being surrounded by about six teenagers. One of them asks what pizza he’s carrying, and when the victim replies, the others rush in, beating him with punches, kicks, and stomps. One teen even slams a pizza box over his head.
The attackers dash away on their e‑bikes while some claim they believed the victim had died, yet one still takes a photo of him, the clip shows. According to KTLA, the teens had been heard planning an assault on a stranger moments before the incident, as witness Matt Terrill told Fox 11. “They met up here five minutes before and were talking about doing something. They wanted to ‘get someone,’” Terrill said.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital and later discharged, as the Hermosa Beach Police Department reported. No arrests have been announced yet, and investigators have not released a motive.
Residents say e‑bike‑riding gangs have long caused trouble in town. “These kids are noted for constant trouble,” Geoff Van Sickle, owner of Strand Electric Bike Company, told KTLA. “They run in packs of five to six bikes at a time,” he added, noting that the electric dirt‑bikes these teens ride are not street‑legal.
Another local resident, Hart Cardozo, 66, recounted last month’s ordeal when a group of teens ambushed him in daylight, slashed his tires, and struck him on the head, requiring 14 staples. Seeing the latest attack made him speak out: “If this is going on in the community and you’re not talking about it, it needs to come out,” he told FOX 11. “They need to be arrested,” Cardozo added. “And whatever parents are facilitating this mischief, they really don’t know what’s going on with their kids.”
The Hermosa Police Department confirmed it is investigating both incidents.
