In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, folks are buzzing with excitement over the government’s latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) changes that kicked in on Monday. Many residents thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the new GST slab reductions will make life easier for poor and middle-class families by cutting prices on everyday essentials.
Local shoppers in this historic city praised the move as a real win for ordinary people. They highlighted how it supports key areas like automobiles and healthcare, showing the government’s focus on boosting the economy while helping everyday consumers.
One resident, Alok Kumar Shrivastav, shared his thoughts with : “This GST slab cut is a huge relief for the poor and middle class. Milk products are cheaper now, and automobiles will cost less too. I really appreciate PM Narendra Modi for this.”
Another local, Narsingh Pathak, zeroed in on the perks for car and bike buyers. “It’s a smart decision that helps the automobile sector big time,” he told . “People buying small cars used to shell out up to Rs 1 lakh in taxes, but now they could save up to Rs 80,000. Motorcycles will drop by around Rs 35,000, and medicines for diabetes and cancer will get more affordable too.”
The day before, PM Modi addressed the nation via video, explaining how these GST rate cuts lighten the load on wallets. He launched the nationwide GST Bachat Utsav to celebrate the savings on homes, vehicles, and household goods. Modi called it a key push toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat—India’s self-reliant vision—and growth that includes everyone.
He pointed out simple joys getting easier: Want to build a house, grab a TV or fridge, or pick up a scooter, bike, or car? All that costs less now. Even travel feels lighter, with GST slashed on most hotel rooms.
Modi also cheered the quick response from shopkeepers, who are passing these GST reduction benefits straight to customers.
These reforms got the green light at the 56th GST Council meeting earlier this month. The old four-rate setup is giving way to a simpler two-slab system: 5 percent and 18 percent. Luxury and sin goods stick with a 40 percent rate.
Experts say this GST structure tweak will simplify rules, drop consumer prices, and fire up manufacturing. It targets support for everything from agriculture and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) to automobiles and renewable energy. Overall, it aims to lower living costs, empower small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), expand the tax base, and fuel inclusive growth across India.
