PM Modi, Denmark counterpart Frederiksen vow to strengthen Green Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a productive phone chat with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Tuesday. The two leaders focused on boosting their countries’ Green Strategic Partnership, covering key areas like trade, investment, innovation, energy, water management, food processing, and sustainable development.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared the highlights. “Had a very good conversation with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark today. We reaffirmed our strong commitment to strengthening our Green Strategic Partnership and to an early conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. Conveyed best wishes for Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Also discussed our shared interest in bringing an early end to the conflict in Ukraine,” he wrote.

PM Modi extended warm wishes for Denmark’s current role as President of the Council of the European Union and its non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) added that the leaders talked about regional and global issues, with PM Modi stressing India’s support for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict and quick restoration of peace.

Both leaders pushed for wrapping up the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) soon. PM Frederiksen echoed this, highlighting Denmark’s backing for a win-win India-EU FTA and the success of India’s upcoming AI Impact Summit in 2026.

Denmark’s PM office also posted on X: “PM Frederiksen, after talk with Narendra Modi: We reaffirmed the strength of our relations and Green Strategic Partnership. Exchanged views on global challenges. I emphasised importance of cooperation, also on addressing global consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

This call builds on recent ties. Back in May, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met PM Frederiksen in Copenhagen. He reaffirmed India’s dedication to deepening the Green Strategic Partnership and thanked Denmark for its support in fighting terrorism. Jaishankar also met Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen to discuss bilateral relations and global matters, appreciating Denmark’s solidarity against terror.

These interactions show how India and Denmark are teaming up on green initiatives, trade deals, and world peace efforts.
