MP Congress backs party worker arrested by Delhi Police over sharing ‘vote-chori’ fake video

Bhopal/New Delhi:
The Madhya Pradesh arm of the Congress party publicly backed Manjeet Ghoshi, a party cadre who was taken into custody by Delhi Police the day before. Ghoshi, who hails from a village in the state, faced arrest for posting a video on social media that falsely portrayed a “vote‑chori” protest.

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari accused the ruling BJP of “harassing” opposition activists to instill fear. He told LatestNewsX on Saturday, “The Delhi Police picked up a poor party worker simply for expressing his opinion, and they took him away even before our workers could reach the police station.”

Ghoshi was detained on Friday in his hometown in Narsinghpur district. He is charged with circulating an old clip from a Rajasthan protest, which he misrepresented as evidence of a ‘vote‑chori’ demonstration in Bihar. The Congress party claimed that Ghoshi was denied the chance to see his family before police whisked him to Delhi.

Patwari said the police removed the social media activist because he tried to expose what the party calls vote theft nationwide. “What is the value of truth today?” he asked. He argued that the BJP has repeatedly shared fabricated videos that incite violence, yet those individuals have not faced arrest. “A social activist (Ghosi) was arrested because he is a Congress worker,” Patwari asserted.

The leader said he had spoken with Ghoshi’s relatives in Narsinghpur and pledged full legal support. Senior advocate and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha announced that his legal team will represent Ghoshi in the Patiala House District Court in Delhi on Saturday.

According to police statements, Ghoshi had posted on X a video of a torch‑light procession that actually took place in September in Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, as an appeal for justice following a school tragedy. Three days after the Bihar assembly results, Ghoshi falsely claimed that the footage depicted protesters accusing the BJP of winning through ‘vote‑chori’ in Bihar.
