Anupam Kher inaugurates thought provoking work of Padmashri Ratan Parimoo & Naina Dalal
Actor Anupam Kher kicked off an exciting art exhibition in Mumbai, celebrating the lifelong work of veteran artists Ratan Parimoo and Naina Dalal. The event happened at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) Mumbai, teaming up with Gallerie Splash.
Kher shared some fun moments from the inauguration on Instagram, calling it a real honor. In his post, he wrote, “A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY IN COLOURS: It was my pleasure and my honour to inaugurate the beautiful and thought-provoking paintings of 90-year-old Padma Shri #RatanParimoo ji and his wife #NainaDalal ji. They have been married for 65 years.”
He couldn’t stop praising their art, adding, “Their work is exceptional and their lives are inspirational! Their retrospective is open to the public at #NationalGalleryOfModernArt for the next one month! Please go and visit their wonderful work!” The post featured a video of Ratan Parimoo speaking to the crowd, plus photos of Kher posing with the couple.
The show, titled “Pioneer Abstractionist,” showcases over 40 pieces by Ratan Parimoo from 1958 to 1973. As a Padma Shri winner, he’s famous for his paintings, art history insights, and teaching. Running alongside it is “Naina Dalal: The Silent Fire Within,” highlighting more than 150 of her works in etching, aquatint, collagraphy, and lithography.
The event drew a lively crowd from the art world, including diplomats like Daniel Quer Confalonieri from the Embassy of Argentina and Farhana Ahmed Chowdhury from the Embassy of Bangladesh. NGMA Mumbai Director Nidhi Choudhari, curatorial advisor Girish Shahane, gallerist Jinoy Payyappilly, and art historian Gauri Krishnan also joined in.
