New Delhi, Dec 7 (LatestNewsX) – Air India and Air India Express said they are working to meet the latest airfare‑cap directive from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Since Dec 4, both airlines have already set a maximum price on economy‑class tickets for nonstop domestic routes, cutting the usual fluctuations that automated revenue‑management software would normally create.
“In view of the widespread disruptions that travellers across India are currently experiencing, Air India and Air India Express announce a series of proactive measures to help those stranded reach their destinations,” the carriers explained.
To give passengers more flexibility, a one‑time waiver of change and cancellation fees is now available for eligible domestic bookings.
“With this, guests who booked their flights with either carrier until Dec 4 for travel until Dec 15 can reschedule their bookings to a future date without paying the applicable rescheduling fee (within the validity of the purchased ticket, as applicable) or can cancel their bookings with full refund (without any cancellation fee applied),” the airlines said.
The waiver applies to changes or cancellations made up to Dec 8. “Fare difference, if any, in case of rescheduling will apply,” they added.
Customers looking to use the waiver can call the 24×7 contact centres of either carrier or contact their travel agent worldwide. To cope with high call volumes and reduce waiting times, additional staff have been deployed at the 24×7 contact centres.
Air India and Air India Express are also maximizing seat availability across their extensive network. “Wherever operationally feasible, eligible Economy Class passengers would be upgraded to higher cabins at no additional cost so that every available seat can be utilized to help stranded travellers. Both carriers are also operating additional flights on key routes to help travellers and their baggage reach their destinations as quickly as possible,” the airlines stated.
In addition, special discounted fares and benefits are being offered on the airlines’ websites and mobile apps for students, senior citizens, members of the armed forces, and their dependents.
