In Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath kept alive a cherished tradition at the Gorakhnath Temple. On Mahanavami during Sharadiya Navratri, the Peethadhishwar led the Kanya Pujan ritual, honoring Matru Shakti—the divine feminine power. As Uttar Pradesh’s leader, Yogi Adityanath has backed this reverence with real action, rolling out schemes to boost women’s safety, empowerment, and dignity.
During the Wednesday ceremony, Yogi Adityanath washed the feet of nine young girls in the temple’s dining hall. These girls stood for the nine forms of Goddess Durga. He worshipped them with traditional steps: applying roli, sandalwood paste, curd, and rice grains to their foreheads. Then he offered flowers and durva grass, draped them in garlands and chunaris, and performed aarti. With devotion, he served them food from the temple kitchen, handed out gifts and dakshina, and bowed for their blessings.
True to Gorakshapeeth customs, he also held Batuk Pujan for young boys. In one touching moment, Yogi Adityanath worshipped a six-month-old baby girl and took her blessings. He even applied a tilak to a boy dressed as Hanuman, garlanding him and placing a cloth over his shoulders.
The excitement buzzed among the kids. The girls beamed with joy as Yogi Adityanath personally gave them dakshina. After the main rituals, he joined a larger group of young girls and batuks for aarti, making sure everyone got a hearty meal of fresh prasadam. He moved from plate to plate, chatting warmly with the children and directing temple staff to keep things running smoothly.
Yogi Kamalnath, the temple’s chief priest, and Jagadguru Swami Santoshacharya Satua Baba from Kashi joined the event. Earlier that morning, Yogi Adityanath had worshipped Goddess Siddhidatri at the temple’s Shaktipeeth during the puja session. This Navratri tradition highlights Yogi Adityanath’s deep ties to Gorakhpur and his focus on women’s empowerment in Uttar Pradesh.
