Disruptions continue: IndiGo cancels 58 flights at Hyderabad airport

Hyderabad – Dec 9 (Indian News Agency) – flight services at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport have been in turmoil for the eighth straight day, with IndiGo canceling 58 operations on Tuesday. The carrier scrapped 14 inbound flights and 44 departures to major hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Cochin, Visakhapatnam, Varanasi, Patna, Srinagar, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Chennai and Jodhpur. This marks the first time since 4 December that daily cancellations have dipped below 100; Monday’s figures hit 112, a decline that has been trending downward since 6 December. Despite the drop, passengers still struggle, as more than 600 IndiGo flights have been called off at Hyderabad since 2 December. In addition, the airline halted six services at Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. Authorities have stepped in to accommodate those stranded. SpiceJet has added extra flights to mitigate the rush, while South Central Railway (SCR) and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) have introduced special trains and buses. SCR’s extra trains head to Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Howrah, whereas TGSRTC’s bus fleet serves Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam. In a statement released on Monday, IndiGo said it operated over 1,800 flights that day, up from 1,650 on Sunday, and that it has fully restored network coverage. The airline also reported a 90 % on‑time performance across its routes, a jump from 75 % earlier. Regarding passenger compensation, IndiGo has already refunded ₹827 crore, with pending amounts to be processed through 15 December. The carrier noted that it helped stranded customers secure more than 9,500 hotel rooms and nearly 10,000 cabs or buses between 1 and 7 December. Approximately 4,500 bags have reached their owners, and the remaining items are slated for delivery within the next 36 hours. ms/svn
